Candidate Statement

Vice-President
Silvia Foster-Frau

Bio: Silvia is a national reporter covering multiculturalism for The Washington Post, where she writes about how the country is changing racially, ethnically and culturally. She was previously the immigration reporter for the San Antonio Express-News and president of the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists. Before that she was a Hearst Fellow. She received her bachelor’s in English from Grinnell College in 2015. She’s midwestern and Puerto Rican.

Statement: As vice-president for NAHJ-DC, I look forward to increasing membership engagement and continuing to safely revive pre-pandemic NAHJ-DC events and activities. We must increase the number of Latinos in newsrooms to improve the coverage of our diverse community, and as NAHJ-DC vice-president I'll work toward that goal by nurturing and supporting both the professionals already in the industry and students or future journalists of color.
