Steve Soliz

I am running to serve on the board of our local chapter because I believe in the mission of NAHJ and I believe in the people who are represented by this valuable organization. I am honored to be one of the only Latino television news anchors in the Pacific Northwest. However, I feel there could and should be more representation in our region. I hope to use my position to help members of our chapter achieve their goals, as well as help create change so more Latinx people feel empowered instead of outnumbered

Enrique Cerna

I am running for the board president post because I want to grow the Seattle chapter. I also want help mentor the next generation of Latino journalists who are the future of the chapter. I bring more than four decades of experience as a broadcast journalist. I have been active in Seattle’s Latino community and have strong contacts throughout the state. My goal is to grow our presence and opportunities for Latino journalists in this region.

Lilly Fowler

Hola amigos, For those of you who don’t already know me, I’m the social justice reporter for one of the local NPR stations in Seattle — KNKX. I’ve been on the board of Periodistas NW for a year now, and I’m excited for the opportunity to continue my role as treasurer. I’m passionate about making this industry more diverse, and Spanish language media. I see our local chapter of NAHJ as one that seeks to build community and aims to be both fun and educational. There’s a lot of brainstorming that my colleagues and I have done over the last year that I hope to execute and build on.

Liz Jones

My Latina side comes from my Mexican-American mother, who grew up in a farming town in Eastern Washington. She spoke Spanish as her first language and was the first in her family to go to high school, then college. Unfortunately, she chose not to teach her kids Spanish but I made it my mission as a teenager to learn anyway, and forge a connection to this part of my heritage. This connection continues to grow deeper, and I’m glad for the chance to be a part of NAHJ as a way to  help support and strengthen our broader community.

I’m grateful to the journalists who established this chapter and dedicated their time and energy to help it grow. I look forward to continuing this work, especially finding new ways to support our chapter members with opportunities for professional development, scholarships and social connection.
