Candidates Statements:

President (uncontested):
Miguel Martinez Valle
Miguel Martínez-Valle is the current chapter President for NAHJ Philly. If re-elected he looks forward to recruitment and educational opportunities in Person as the world opens up again. Miguel has always been passionate about diverse representation on the news. As a Latinx member of the LGBTQ community, he brings a drive for intersectionality and visibility as well as an emphasis on internship and workshop opportunities.

Vice President (uncontested):
Isabel Sánchez
Hi, my name is Isabel Sanchez and I'd love to continue on my roll as vice-president of NAHJ Philly.

This year has been challenging and now that things are starting to get back to normal I’d love to advance our work connecting now in person.

I’ve experienced first hand the wonders that NAHJ can do for Latinx journalists. I was part of the NAHJ chapter at Syracuse University, while working on my masters, and had the honor of becoming part of the 2017 Student Project initiative during the Excellence in Journalism conference in Anaheim, California. I worked closely with other NHAJ members during the project, and ever since, I have an active member of this wonderful organization.

I want to inspire young journalists to take advantage of the opportunities NAHJ offers.

My background reporting in Venezuela also brings something different to the table. Working in journalism under a totalitarian regime taught me a lot and I'm eager to continue to bring that knowledge and perspective to the organization.

It'd be an honor to continue to be part of such an amazing team.

If you have any questions regarding this chapter's election contact Iris Delgado ([email protected]) and Lucy Bustamante ([email protected]), Philadelphia Chapter Elections Chairs. You can also email us at [email protected] with any additional questions.

Good luck!
