Vanessa Graber

Throughout my career I have organized to ensure communities have access to important information and communications tools, raised awareness about important social justice issues, advocated for Latinx representation in media, and changed narratives to shift policy. In my role at Free Press and as an NAHJ board member I've organized to advocate for journalists to have better conditions in their newsrooms, DEI programs, pay equity, and an editorial process that allows journalists and the communities they cover to thrive. If elected as President, I will continue this advocacy and work with the board to create programming for our members that advances their professional goals and creates more equitable newsrooms for all.

Valeria Aponte Feliciano

Hi everybody,

My name is Valeria Aponte Feliciano, I am from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, I am one of four kids and for more than 10 years I have been a bilingual journalist. This industry has taken me across the country where I have met wonderful people who have trusted me to share their stories. For me, being a journalist is so much more than a job, it’s a passion. I am one of those that believes that journalism is calling. We work more than 8 hours a day for our community specially to serve those whose voices are not being heard and are not being prioritized.

After a year of making Philadelphia my home and working as an anchor and reporter for NBC10 and Telemundo 62, I want to get more involved in our community and what better way than stepping into a board role of an organization that its priority must be fighting for the rights of Latino journalist and working for more representation. We have come a long way but more needs to be done. We need to build a community that has each other’s back, creates opportunities for others and opens doors that are equal to all.

I’m honored to have this opportunity to run for NAHJ Secretary for the Philadelphia chapter and hope I can count on your support.
Joy Soto
