2023 NAHJ CHAPTER ELECTIONS: PUERTO RICO The Puerto Rico Chapter elections committee is pleased to open the ballot to vote on this year's board election. NAHJ professional chapter officers’ general guidelines to keep in mind: Officers of Professional Chapters
(a) Officers. Each professional chapter (i) is required to have a President, a Vice President, a Treasurer and a Secretary and (ii) at the discretion of the Chapter Board also may have a single at-large officer with such responsibilities as the Chapter Board shall determine.
(b) Qualifications. The offices of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary may be held only by Regular Members in good standing. Any Regular Member, Academic Member or Associate Member, in good standing, may serve as the at-large officer.
(c) Holding Multiple Offices. Any elected officer may concurrently hold two or more offices, except that in no event shall the President serve simultaneously as the Treasurer or the Secretary.
(d) Election. Chapter officers shall be elected annually. The President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary shall be elected by the Regular Members and the Academics Members of the chapter. The at-large officer, if any, shall be elected by the Regular Members, the Academic Members and the Associate Members of the chapter.
Candidates Statements:Adriana Díaz Tirado Periodista enfocada en temas de género, migración, derechos reproductivos, la comunidad LGBTTQI+, politíca y educación. Egresada de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras, de un bachillerado en Periodismo y una segunda concentración en Ciencia Política y una maestría en Comunicación con especialidad en Estudios Mediáticos y Periodismo. Fue presidenta del Capítulo de la UPRRP de la Asociación Nacional de Periodistas Hispanos (NAHJ). Ha escrito para medios como El Nuevo Día , Primera Hora, TODAS, y en medios internacionales como Distintas Latitudes, Latfem, CONNECTAS, Espacio Insular, entre otros. Actualmente, se desempaña como reportera en El Nuevo Día haciendo un trabajo con perspectiva de género y en defensa de los derechos humanos. Quedo atenta de necesitar algo adicional. ¡Muchas gracias! Israel Rodríguez-Sánchez Periodista con más de 20 años de experiencia como reportero y editor, la mayoría de ellos en el periódico El Nuevo Día. Actualmente, se desempeña como catedrático auxiliar en la Universidad de Puerto Rico y como periodista independiente.
Valeria Torres Valeria María Torres Nieves es una periodista feminista egresada de la Facultad de Comunicación e Información de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Río Piedras. Actualmente trabaja como reportera web para el diario El Nuevo Día. Previamente se desempeñó como periodista del medio feminista Todas y colaboró con el Centro de Periodismo Investigativo y Palabra.
